| September 29, 2005 Discussion with Anna Fels on “Ambition in Women’s Changing Lives” At the Bronxville Library - Yeager Room $15 donation to defray costs The evening's featured speaker, Anna Fels, psychiatrist and author, spoke on the role of ambition in women's lives. Drawing on extensive research and years of her psychiatric practice, she looked at what ambition is; whether we need it to have satisfying lives; and what can prevent women from realizing their goals. She placed these questions in an historical context, describing why these issues have surfaced so powerfully in the last decade. In the process, she examined what is necessary for women to articulate - - and fulfill – - their dreams. The floor was opened for questions and answers and interactive discussion. The discussion was preceded and followed by light hors d'oeuvres and the opportunity for mingling with dynamic women from our local community. Ms. Fels’ highly acclaimed book, "Necessary Dreams: Ambition in Women's Changing Lives" (Pantheon), was on sale at the event and can also be purchased on-line at: www.randomhouse. ca/catalog/author.pperl?authorid=47357. **** About the Speaker **** Fels © Sigrid Estrada Anna Fels, MD is a practicing psychiatrist who has written for numerous publications, including The New York Times Book Review, The Science Section of the New York Times, The Harvard Business Review, The Nation, The Times Literary Supplement, and Self Magazine.
