| May 3, 2006 WWB Panel Discussion on "What the Busy Woman Needs to Know About Staying Healthy." At the Bronxville Library (201 Pondfield Road) in the Yeager Room We had a fascinating panel on tips for the busy woman on staying healthy. We all know this is an important issue, but, caught up in juggling jobs, activities and home life, we often put our own personal mental and physical health on the back burner. We devoted the evening of to hear from a panel of specialists in nutrition, psychology and medicine about the major issues we need to focus on to stay vibrant and healthy. Dr. Araxi P. Macaulay prevention researcher and epidemiologist, Dr. Anca Moscatello, oncologist and founder of a medical spa, Jacqui Justice, nutrionist, and Dr. Mary J. Giuffra, psychotherapist explored a variety of health issues in a panel format so WWBers can better address symptoms and take preventative measures to maintain their physical and mental well being. Specifically, Dr. Macaulay will provided an overview of menopausal and hormonal changes and their impact on women’s health; Dr. Moscatello focused on the impact of preventative treatment in reducing the risks of chronic disease and aging; Jacqueline Justice offered tips on how the right nutrition can reduce stress; and Dr. Giuffra will explore how to better manage the variety of competing expectations placed on women daily. The four panelists provided 10 minutes of formal remarks followed by a question and answer session. As always, there will be time for mingling and refreshments will be served. * * * Abridged Bios * * * Dr. Araxi P. Macaulay received a doctoral degree in Health Education from Columbia University’s Teachers College and a master’s degree in Public Health in Epidemiology from The University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. She also completed an NIH-funded three-year Cardiovascular Post-Doctoral Training Fellowship in Epidemiology and her focus of research included cardiovascular behavioral prevention outcomes in menopausal women. She is currently Director of Grants and Research at a private research and development firm, National Health Promotion Associates, Inc. Dr. Macaulay has served as principal investigator on NIH-funded clinical trials and is also a Visiting Assistant Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University where she teaches a graduate course on Epidemiological Topics in Women’s Health. In addition to her 14 years of experience conducting health promotion research in women and adolescent populations, she has published articles and presented scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. She resides in Bronxville Village with her husband Bill and two children, William and Corinne. Anca E. Tchelebi Moscatello received her M.D.from School of Medicine and Pharmacology, Bucharest, Romania followed by various trainings at Methodist Hospital where she developed her expertise in oncology. Dr. Moscatello was an attending physician at in the Department of Radiation Therapy at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York United Medical Center, Westchester Medical Center as well as spending four years as the director, Department of Radiation Medicine, Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center. Working with patients in these more traditional forums inspired her to found and direct the Park Avenue Medical Spa in Armonk dedicated to providing a wide variety of treatments for preventive care, including patients physical and emotional well being. Jacqueline Justice holds a Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition from New York Medical College, is certified by the American College of Nutrition and is licensed by New York State. In addition, she has completed an advanced training program in Functional Clinical Nutrition with Designs for Health Institute. Jacqueline has been in private practice since 1996. She has an office in Eastchester, NY and is a practitioner at Nobis Club and Spa in Irvington, NY. Jacqueline has been a frequent guest on Westchester's News Channel 12, Robert Crayhon's "The Voice of Wellness", and has been featured in Women's News. Jacqueline counsels clients on a variety of health issues including Weight Loss, PMS/Hormonal Imbalances, Pre/Post-natal Nutrition, Menopause, Digestive Disorders, Blood Sugar Imbalances (Diabetes,Hypoglycemia), Metabolic Syndrome, Hypertension, Hypothyroidism, Chronic Yeast Overgrowth, Energy Problems, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Food Allergies and sensitivities, Auto Immune Disorders and Cancer. Dr. Mary J. Giuffra was a researcher and tenured professor at New York University where she received her Ph.D. and at College of Mt St Vincent where she was awarded an honorary LLD; she has a psychotherapy practice in Bronxville and works with individuals, couples & families who are experiencing crises, stress and trauma. Vice president of the U.S. Assoc. for Body Psychotherapy, Mary teaches and supervises therapists in Somatic Experiencing, a form of therapy that helps people to move through and renegotiate overwhelming life events without feeling overwhelmed in the process. In this approach, trauma is seen in the nervous system rather than in the event. Resilience to future stress is an outcome. Certified in family and couples therapy, addictions, psych mental health, sex therapy; core energetics and somatic experiencing, Mary received the 2005 Distinguished Alumni Award from NYU. She has four married children and six grandchildren. |
